SEC Network Live Streaming Guide

The SEC Network is one of the latest additions to the college conference broadcasting universe, but it’s already among the most powerful. The SEC Network launched in August 2014 as a joint venture between the conference and sports programming juggernaut ESPN. It’s a ‘win/win’ relationship for both–ESPN gets a lock on the best college football conference in the country while the SEC can leverage ESPN to grow their audience.

ESPN’s broadcasting muscle is evident in the SEC Network’s initial viewership numbers. At the time of the network launch, it was already the biggest college sports network in terms of both availability and revenue. The SEC Network is available in 76 million homes, or roughly the same as the Big Ten and Pac-12 Networks combined. The SEC Network also ranks high among all sports programming networks pulling in the #5 revenue numbers and #6 audience numbers in that market segment.

From the outset, the SEC Network has made a strong commitment to online streaming of their live events. According to network press statements, over 50% of the SEC Network’s programming is available online including a 24/7 live stream. This exposure benefits not only the ‘big sports’ like football and basketball but the lower profile sports as well. The network has made a goal of carrying every sporting event involving any of its member schools. If the SEC Network doesn’t carry a game on TV, it’s almost certain to be available as a digital exclusive on the streaming platform.

The logical thing to do would be to open streaming viewership to anyone who wants to subscribe, but that’s not available now nor will it be for the foreseeable future.

Even without the aforementioned cable/satellite subscription there’s a number of ways to watch SEC Network programming. Simply put, it’s easier to find live content online from the SEC network than it is the other college conferences.
